About the Director
Julie A. Riess, Ph.D. is a developmental psychologist, the Director of Wimpfheimer Nursery School and the Executive Director of the Infant Toddler Center at Vassar College. She is a faculty member at Vassar College, where she teaches courses on the applications of developmental psychology research to understanding children in the context of their lives at home and school. Dr. Riess is the author of more than 130 articles on parenting, which appear in her bi-weekly column, The Early Years, through Gannett Publications nation-wide distribution. She has been interviewed by Parenting Magazine, Parents Magazine and Child.
As an educator and developmental psychologist, Dr. Riess has conducted regional and national training workshops for early childhood educators, parents, administrators, researchers and health care professional on matching teaching, parenting and health care practices to contemporary research in child development. Her research and curricular programming interests also include the relationship between emotional and cognitive development, and early intervention and inclusion models for early childhood educational settings. Dr. Riess has served as board president for the Mid-Hudson Children's Museum and the Child Care Counsel of Dutchess.
